Melechesh – Emissaries (2006)

Ready for more Melechesh this morning? How about their fourth full length album, called Emissaries? Have you heard it yet? Check it out below…

This album opens up like an sand storm upon ancient lands plagued by pestilence, war, famine, and death! From the opening guitar riff to the brilliant use of middle eastern influence this album will draw you in like being a witness at a sacrifice!

All wiki says is “Emissaries is Melechesh’s fourth full length album and third through Osmose Productions. The album introduces their new drummer Xul (who has been performing with them since 2004). The Album contains an instrumental Bonus Track – Extemporized Ophtalmic Release – it is not titled on the track listing but is number 11 on the CD, the given name of this track basically refers to it being an unplanned improvised jam.”

Melechesh are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands of late. Both threash and black metal have been around for awhile and seeing bands branch out from the typical “we love satan more than you” album concept. Melechesh will open your mind to new forms of black metal.

Melechesh – Djinn (2001)

Wow, as soon as the intro starts on Melechesh’s Djinn you know this is going to be good. Many bands have used Mesopotamian influences and used instruments from the region as well, but none capture the essence of that culture in metal than Melechech!

Djinn is the second full length album by the black metal band Melechesh.”

Djinn is a fascinating concept and at over an hour long is sure to invite you in for a long voyage through the hot desert days and nights of genies, wizards, and witches! By using melodies and cultural influences the subject matter will wrap around your mind as you listen. Enjoy the mp3s.

The way Amon Amarth have utilized the Norse mythology in their music, Melechech gives us a taste of Mesopotamian black metal with a theme invoked by their culture.

Danzig – Lucifuge (1990)

Classic Danzig right here. According to the wiki “The title “Lucifuge” is the imperative form of the Latin compound verb lucifugere, from ‘lux’ (light) + ‘fugere’ (to flee), which means “to flee or shun the light”. If it is to be taken literally, lucifuge is thus a command: “shun the light” or “flee from the light” (or logically, “seek darkness”). “Lucifuge” is also the name of the demon in charge of Hell’s government by order of Lucifer, who is also one of the seven princes of Hell. Before its release the album had been tentatively titled “777″.”

Lucifuge is one of those albums that, to fans, is a must have in the Danzig discography however its also the last time we would here Danzig’s voice as it is on this recording. No other Danzig album sounds like this one.

Some of the songs on this album are some of Glenn Danzig’s finest song writing. While all Danzig’s music is good, this blues influenced time in this band’s career would never be matched again. Danzig moved on to heavy down tuned guitars and illustrates the difference in the earlier Danzig material.

Danzig – Danzig (1988)

“Danzig” is the 1988 debut album of the American heavy metal band Danzig, led by Glenn Danzig who was formerly the songwriter and vocalist of the Misfits and Samhain.

Danzig was recorded at Atlantic Recording Studios and Chung King Metal, and mixed at Smoke Tree and Village.

According to wikipedia,… “Glenn Danzig originally wrote the songs “Twist of Cain” and “Possession” for his previous band, Samhain. James Hetfield of Metallica performed backup vocals on “Twist of Cain” and “Possession”, but due to contractual reasons could not be credited in the album insert.”

“Original LP, CD, and cassette versions of the album cover had no writing or identifying text whatsoever, only a white skull on a black background. Later pressings of the compact disc added the Danzig band name logo in the lower right. While 1990-1998 pressings of the CD had the Parental Advisory label in the form of a sticker on the cellophane wrap, pressings since 1998 have the label printed on the artwork. Danzig is one of few albums labeled as “explicit” despite the virtual absence of profanity…”
